Teenage sensation Luke Littler opted for family time over staying at a plush hotel ahead of his mouth-watering darts final on Friday. Littler, who's just 17, declined a room at a Hilton hotel near to Alexandra Palace, where his 2025 PDC World Championship final against Michael van Gerwen will be held. The Hilton has been where other players have been staying throughout the throughout, whereas Littler is staying with his family in a rented London apartment.
The Warrington wonderkid was snapped leaving Ally Pally on Thursday night en route to where his family have been staying in the capital. Having also made the final on his debut last year, only to lose to 7-4 Luke Humphries, Littler gave himself another shot at glory by beating Stephen Bunting 6-1.
Van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, also won his semi-final 6-1, knocking out Chris Dobey. Now only two players are left, with Littler's rise to fame helping make darts bigger than ever and helping him scoop the 2024 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.
An historic victory would see the 17-year-old become the youngest ever player to win the world title. Van Gerwen currently holds the record, having been crowned champion aged 24 in 2014. "Everyone else is looking forward to it more than I am, but if I win seven sets I will be happy," Littler said of the final.
"Michael has been in numerous finals, this is my second, I know where I went wrong last year and I am sure I will fix it. It's the stuff of dreams, everyone wants to pick up a trophy, but you have to be at the top of your game to do it. I have got no pressure, I am going to enjoy it, if I can get off to a quick start I'll be happy.".
