With luxury living spaces, gorgeous bedrooms and professional chef-approved kitchens, these enviable properties across the UK are enough to lure any buyer. But these plush homes aren't found in glossy apartment buildings or picturesque cottages - instead they're concealed within the houseboats, barges and yachts that line the country's rivers and canals.
They're becoming increasingly popular with buyers thanks to the 'unique way of living' and 'strong sense of community', explained Nigel Day, co-founder and director of RiverHomes, to FEMAIL. 'When you buy a houseboat, you’re not simply buying a home. You’re buying a lifestyle,' he said.
'Although many modern houseboats are virtually indistinguishable from luxury flats once you step on board, they offer a unique way of living. 'There’s nothing quite like stepping outside in the morning to watch the sunrise over the deck as the Canadian geese paddle by.
'You’re lulled to sleep at night by the sound of waves gently lapping against the hull. What’s more, there’s a strong sense of community amongst the houseboat owners in a marina. It’s like living in a small village in the heart of a city.'. However, houseboats aren't the shortcut into the housing market that they might first appear; some come with humongous price tags, often reflecting their luxurious interior and prime location.
