It was the end of the road for one Coronation Street couple in tonight’s episode as they announced their split after a difficult few months. Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) was clearly anxious for her upcoming murder trial as she spoke to boyfriend Max Turner (Paddy Bever) in the prison visiting room.
The teen is set to face the jury after killing abuser Joel Deering in September. Having been groomed by Joel for months, Lauren was attacked and left for dead by him early last year. When she returned to Weatherfield after going into hiding, it transpired that she was pregnant.
In a sickening plot, Joel drugged her to induce early labour, though fortunately baby Frankie survived. Having terrorised Lauren in the weeks that followed, Max went after him to warn him off once and for all.
However, their tussle turned violent, and Lauren ended up hitting Joel with a large rock in defence of Max. Max tried his best to be supportive during his visit to the prison, asking what he could do to help make Lauren feel better, but she insisted that without a time machine he could nothing to help.
As Lauren wished aloud that she hadn’t lied about the circumstances of Joel’s murder, it was clear that she and Max weren’t on the same page, and everything he said began to grate on her. With Lauren facing up to 20 years behind bars, she made a huge decision and decided to call time on her relationship with Max.
