A woman has revealed a cracking method to whip up the perfect ham and cheese toastie - making the traditional pan frying technique a thing of the past. Toasties, or grilled cheese sandwiches as some call them, are a favourite in the UK, loved for their simplistic yet delicious charm. The perfect toastie includes thick slices of bread, a generous spread of butter, and that all-important cheese stretch we adore.

Then comes the essential decision – adding Worcestershire sauce, a dollop of ketchup, or, for those who like a twist, some caramelised onions. The shape, be it triangles or rectangles, is down to personal fancy. But now, there's a shift in how these simple, once-cold sarnies are getting a hot makeover. Ditching her frying pan, one cook embraced a stellar new approach and was eager enough to share her discovery with fellow enthusiasts in the Facebook group Air Fryer: Easy Recipes. She didn't hold back on butter, slathering each side of her sandwich, then sprinkling garlic salt before piling on deli ham, American cheese, and a slice of Gouda.

Before tossing in the assembled masterpiece, she preheated her air fryer to roughly 190C (370 Fahrenheit) for five minutes. Afterward, the sandwich sizzled for an additional five minutes, flipped midway, reports the Express. "Oh my gosh, I tried an air fryer ham and cheese today, game changer. I will never pan fry again," she exclaimed. "[It's] totally delicious." The post has already garnered an impressive 24,000 likes and a flurry of comments. "That looks delicious! I'm going to have to try this," said one follower.

Another enthusiast commented: "[This is] my favourite cooking method for grilled cheese! " A third chimed in with approval: "I agree, air fryer toasted cheese is the bomb.". The conversation continued as many users contributed their unique twists on the recipe, like swapping out butter for mayonnaise to elevate the classic toastie. Yet, amid the innovative tips, some purists stood their ground, insisting that nothing compares to a toasted sandwich made with a traditional grill.
