A man has been charged over the attack on a nurse who was stabbed in a busy hospital. Rumon Haque, 37, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article after a nurse was stabbed at the Royal Oldham Hospital on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said. The attack left the woman with "life-changing" injuries, the force previously said.

Officers were called to the hospital's Acute Medical Unit on Saturday after reports of an attack. Haque, from Royton in Oldham, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article over the incident. He is set to appear before Manchester magistrates court on Tuesday. The nurse meanwhile, who is in her 50s but has not been named, remains in hospital being treated for her injuries.

Detective Superintendent Matt Walker from GMP's Oldham district said: “Our thoughts are with the nurse as she continues to receive treatment in hospital for her injuries, and our priority remains supporting her, her family, and her colleagues at this difficult time. We continue to work closely with our NHS colleagues to support anyone who has been affected by this incident.”.

GMP said on Sunday that the nurse's condition was "critical" with her injuries believed to be life-threatening. Detective Sergeant Craig Roters said there would be an increased police presence while the investigation was carried out. Chief nursing officer at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust Heather Caudle said: "We are incredibly shocked and saddened by last night’s incident and our focus is on supporting the colleague involved and their family. Our thoughts are also with colleagues and patients who were there at the time of the incident and for whom this has been distressing and frightening.
