Matthew Livelsberger had reportedly told his ex-girlfriend that his Tesla Cybertruck made him “feel like Batman” before he died amid an explosion in Las Vegas. The active-duty US special forces soldier died inside his electric vehicle outside a Donald Trump hotel on Wednesday, New Year’s Day, with the blast injuring seven others.
His car had been filled with fireworks and investigators also found fuel cannisters in the bed of the vehicle. Officials believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound before the explosion. His body was found "burned beyond recognition,” but he was identified from documents and medical records.
But despite the proximity of the incident, the 37-year-old, who was named on Thursday, is said to have been a fan of both his rented Cybertruck and Mr Trump, the Republican president-elect. The FBI, after investigating, said there does not seem to be a link between the Cybertruck explosion and the attack in New Orleans that involved a US Army veteran.
The pair had dated from 2018 to 2021 in between Livelsberger’s two marriages. He shared a child with his second wife Davis, who had reportedly suspected him of cheating on her and moved on. He sent Ms Arritt a text on Sunday morning, reading: “I rented a Tesla Cybertruck. It's the s**t.”.
“Ungodly,” he replied. “I feel like Batman or (in the video game) Halo.”. They then exchanged further texts where Ms Arritt enquired about the health of his mother to which he responded there was no update. “I just want everyone to know that Matt was the kindest man I ever knew,” Ms Arritt said.
