Man City hope Halloween-loving Omar Marmoush can end Pep Guardiola’s horror show but £125m splurge masks deeper issues

OMAR MARMOUSH often pulled out a Halloween mask after scoring goals for Eintracht Frankfurt. The Egyptian was dared to wear it by one of his old team-mates – and it should fit nicely with the horror show that has been Manchester City’s last few months.
However, the question is, can the new £64million forward’s arrival disguise the obvious problems in Pep Guardiola’s squad in the weeks ahead?. They first became apparent as City lost nine out of 12 matches during an astonishing collapse in the final two months of last year.
And despite a mini-revival since Christmas, the old issues were laid bare once more by a rampant Paris Saint-Germain in the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night. City have shelled out around £127million this week on three new signings - with two young defenders coming in before Marmoush.
Abdukodir Khusanov, 20, arrived for £33.5million on Monday and was quickly followed by 19-year-old Brazilian Vitor Reis for £29.5million. The club hopes all three will be signings for the long-term and not just the here and now. But most fans have been crying out for a new defensive midfielder to fill the huge gap left by Ballon D’Or winner Rodri.
Some would also say right-back was an area that needed addressing. But as yet, with just 11 days left of the window, there is no sign of either.
