Mathys Tel favours a loan move in this window - and that might give Manchester United an edge over Tottenham and Arsenal. United have opened talks with Bayern and the player’s representatives to try and get a deal done before Monday’s deadline. Bayern Munich starlet Tel, 19, has told the Bundesliga giants he wants to quit this month to get more regular game time. Tottenham have had a £50m-plus offer accepted by Bayern but the player has yet to accept the terms and may not want to leave Munich permanently.

Arsenal are also another of the interested Premier League clubs but they are not keen on doing a pure loan and would prefer some sort of obligation if they are to back the player and integrate him. United are also on the case and are ready to do a pure loan which may suit the player who wants games, Old Trafford would be a massive switch and then also he keeps his long term options open. But increasingly there is a feeling that Tel is Premier League bound in this window - and now it is a case of where.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl insisted that any prospective deal has to work for them, whether that be a temporary or permanent one. He said: "Mathys is still a Bayern player. Accordingly, if he's there tomorrow, he will hopefully be looking to score goals. That remains the case at the moment. There's no new situation. "Mathys is a very gifted player, his move to Bayern was very good. Whether it's a loan or a sale, we'll see. It needs to be right for all parties.".

United are yet to sign a player during the January window, Ruben Amorim's first in the Old Trafford dugout. But that is set to change over the weekend with Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu flying in for a medical. Arsenal are also yet to sanction an arrival this month, but Mikel Arteta has insisted they are ready to improve the squad if the opportunity arises. On Wednesday, the Gunners saw an ambitious bid for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins knocked back. Villa are already set to lose Jhon Duran, who has completed a move to Al-Nassr and insist Watkins is not for sale.

Sverre Nypan was another player strongly linked with a move to the Emirates, but it appears the in-demand teenager will instead stay with Rosenborg for the remainder of the season.
