The January transfer window appears to be an increasingly important one for Ruben Amorim and Manchester United. It has been a difficult start for the 39-year-old though he did lead the Red Devils to a morale-boosting win over rivals Manchester City on Sunday. But the aftermath of that game has been dominated by talk of Marcus Rashford's future.

The attacker has made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford, though Amorim has pushed back on that suggestion. Whether he stays or goes, United will be active in the January window, with Amorim crying out for reinforcements. Club chiefs will have to contend with the difficult position that previous dreadful transfer windows have placed them in with regards to Profitability and Sustainability rules. Here, Mirror Football looks at what a dream January would be for United.

The elephant in the room is the future of Marcus Rashford. It has been a tough two years for the Englishman, who has scored just 15 goals since signing a lucrative long-term contract in the summer of 2023. Rashford has made it clear that he wants to leave and selling the attacker would bring in much-needed funds for Amorim to spend. While the manager has hinted he wants Rashford to stay, the time is right to part ways.

It is a similar situation with Antony, who has shown no signs of living up to his huge transfer fee. United will have to accept a massive loss on the winger, though any fee brought in for him will be a positive given his awful performances. The next major decision concerning the current squad will be around the future of Alejandro Garnacho. Given United need to raise funds, the winger is seen as being at risk of being sold, given his lack of a clear place in Amorim's plans.
