Troy Deeney believes Marcus Rashford has been the biggest flop of 2024 - claiming sooner or later the forward has to admit "it's his fault". The Manchester United frontman has flattered to deceive for 18 months following the best scoring season of his career. Rashford is far from the lethal influence he once was with Ruben Amorim leaving him out of Sunday's Manchester derby win.

He's landed himself in several unwanted situations as those within the game question his motivation and application. Rashford was pictured in New York during a recent international break and was dropped by Erik ten Hag after failing to report for training.

Rashford has previously come out fighting, defending his career, but Deeney admits the player is not maximising his talent and must eventually shoulder the blame for his failings. He told talkSPORT: "Who’s been a flop for me… it sounds like I’m piling on and I don’t mean to, but you probably have to say Marcus. Marcus has probably been the biggest disappointment this year. 'Flop’ is a hard word but I mean disappointment in terms of expectation and what we think he can deliver. We probably have to say Marcus over the course of January until now.

"I just think he’s highly talented, had all of the opportunity in the world and at some point it’s got to be his fault, and not somebody else’s, that’s what I think.". Rashford himself has dropped a bombshell with the January transfer window less than a fortnight away. He's one of the highest earners in Manchester but has opened the door to a move away in a recent interview.
