Teddy Sheringham says that Marcus Rashford should apologise for saying he wants a "new challenge" away from Manchester United. The 27-year-old, who has spent the entirety of his career with the Red Devils, has fallen out of favour under new head coach Ruben Amorim. He was ultimately left out of United's fierce derby with Manchester City, which they went on to win 2-1 courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.

In the days that followed, Rashford told reporter Henry Winter: "For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me.".

While the forward has been linked with a number of clubs as his potential next destination, including Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and West Ham, Sheringham would prefer it if Rashford apologised for his comments and tried to work his way back into the fold at United.

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, Sheringham said: "I think Ruben Amorim has dealt with Marcus Rashford exactly how he feels right. He's the manager. If someone starts talking like that, obviously his mind is not firmly on the game and if it's not firmly on the game, he's not going to produce his best football.
