Martin Lewis’ MSE 8 day reminder as supermarket rewards set to vanish

Are you one of the 5 million Co-op members in the UK? If so, you’ll want to take note of Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert’s latest warning. The Co-op previously announced that their loyalty scheme was getting a major shake-up, and shoppers would no longer be able to earn cash rewards on Co-op branded items and services.
And now, Money Saving Expert is reminding customers that any money that has been built up needs to be spent by the end of the year. If you don’t, they’ll expire at 11.59pm on Tuesday December 31, 2024. That means you’ve got just eight days to drain your rewards balance, as it’s a ‘use it or lose it’ scenario.
Previously, Co-op members could nab 2p in rewards for every £1 spent on branded goods and services. This ended in January 2024, and instead, the retailer started offering ‘Member Prices’ which, similar to a Tesco Clubcard, offers reductions on both branded and non-branded products in store and online.
The deals change every week, but examples over the past year include 80 Yorkshire Tea bags for £2.75 (compared to £3.75 for non-members) or 10 Bird’s Eye Fish Fingers for £3 (£4.30 for non-members). Not sure if you’ve got any cash rewards left hanging around? There’s a few easy ways to find out.
If you’ve got the Co-op app, your balance is shown in the Wallet section. You can also log into your Co-op account online or simply check your receipt, as your balance is shown on there too. You can spend the rewards by scanning your membership card (either a physical card or the digital version) at the till – there’s also an option to do this at online checkout.
