Martin Lewis has revealed a 'secret' way to become a member of a fan-favourite shop that has developed a cult following among bargain hunters; Costco. With 29 branches across the UK, Costco offers significant discounts on a wide range of products, including groceries, toys and tech.
A wholesale retailer as famous for its cheap petrol and café as for its discounted bulk buys, Costco is not open to the general public but only to members who meet certain eligibility criteria - and their partners. Eligibility usually depends on profession, with business owners, local government employees and people working in education, medicine, banking or the police generally granted access for an annual fee of £26.40.
The Money Saving Expert (MSE) founder, however, has highlighted a different route into Costco in his latest newsletter. While it goes unadvertised by the retailer, members of British motoring associations the AA and the RAC, as well as members of the National Trust conservation charity, are eligible to join specific branches of Costco.
That said, it isn't always straightforward for members of these organisations to make purchases at the wholesaler. In the newsletter, Martin, who also fronts ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, and his team explained: 'Sadly, this doesn't work at all stores, but we called all 29 UK Costcos and were told this worked at Birmingham, Sheffield and Cardiff.
