The Wanted star Max George has revealed how his fear that he might die led him to write his will on his iPhone, prior to life-saving surgery. The singer, 36, was rushed into A&E in Manchester last month, where he was fitted with a pacemaker. This came after he awoke, feeling freezing cold and with bright blue hands while staying at his mum’s house on the morning of December 11.

Max had been staying with mum Babs, 63, at her home in Manchester following a month-long tour of the USA with his band. After alerting his mother – who he credits with saving his life – he was initially sent home by their GP – however, a doctor friend then told him to get straight to A&E.

It was there that he was told he would need to be fitted with a pacemaker. ‘I couldn’t move my arms and the worst feeling was I felt like my throat was closing up,’ Max said in an interview with The Sun. He continued: ‘It felt like someone had their hands around my neck.’.

After doctors took his pulse, he was put in a wheelchair and rushed to the cardiology ward, where he was told by doctors that he would need a pacemaker. After receiving the shock news, Max broke the news to girlfriend and former EastEnders star Maisie Smith, 23 – who was in Kent, preparing to go on stage for a pantomime version of Beauty and the Beast.

‘I was in the right place and, as much as it was difficult not having her around, and her head was spinning, it was better for her to focus on her work. I had my family there,’ Max said. However, as he lay in hospital preparing for surgery, he became overwhelmed with a fear that he might die.
