Mikel Arteta has lamented his inability to make a difference from the substitutes bench for Arsenal, while Liverpool were able to claim three points using theirs. The Reds lead the Gunners by six points in the Premier League, and hold a game in hand, after extending their gap at the top thanks to a late Darwin Nunez brace against Brentford. While Arne Slot called up Darwin among his substitutes, in addition to Federico Chiesa, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Andrew Robinson, Arteta made just one change at the Emirates against Aston Villa.

The Spaniard only called upon Raheem Sterling's services in the 82nd minute, with no other senior attacking options available and the score deadlocked. Unai Emery made four substitutions to bring the tie level after the north London side had earned a two-goal lead.

Arteta wants Arsenal to back him in the transfer market thise month. The Gunners head coach highlighted the key difference between his side and Liverpool currently. "They managed to do that [win late at Brentford], they made the subs, they made the impact & changed the game," he said. "In our side it was the opposite.

"After conceding the two Villa goals very close to each other, I knew the team could go downhill because we were physically drained but suddenly they found another gear to go again.". Following his side's draw against Villa, Arteta was asked if the result piled on the pressure to be active in the transfer window. "Not the result," he said.
