Mikel Arteta admits that Arsenal 'very worried' as they await the results of a scan on William Saliba's hamstring injury. Saliba, 23, missed the Gunners' deflating 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa which further dented their Premier League title chances. Arteta confirmed pre-match that his star had felt some 'tightness', as midfielder Thomas Partey dropped into the defence.
Speaking after Saturday's draw, Arteta shed more light on the situation. "Tomorrow we will have more information. Tomorrow we will have another test on him and it will be more clear," the Gunners boss revealed. Asked if he was worried, Arteta replied: "Yeah, for sure. Especially with the numbers that we have in the squad and looking at our bench. Very worried.".
Arsenal were already without a host of players for Villa's trip to the Emirates, including Saliba, Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Bukayo Saka, Etahn Nwaneri and Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners still managed to take a two-goal lead through Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, but Villa's eight-minute turnaround saw the game finish 2-2.
Despite the result, which leaves Arsenal six points adrift of Liverpool, who have a game in hand, Arteta was 'proud' of his side. "We were unbelievable," the Spaniard told BBC Sport. "So proud of the way we played, how dominant, how fluid we were and how much we put into it.
