This is the shocking moment a drink driving mother more than three times the legal limit flipped her car with two children and a dog in the back. Gemma Trevair was behind the wheel of the Suzuki S-Cross during rush hour when she crashed into the front of a shop on Front Street, Wingate, County Durham, and flipped the car on to its side.

Miraculously, the two children and the dog were left unscathed following the collision on November 1 around 9am. Police rushed to the scene and was arrested the 41-year-old at the scene and following a breath test in custody she was found to have 105mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – more than three times the legal limit of 35mg.

Trevail, of Wingate, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, two counts of child neglect, driving while otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance and criminal damage. On Saturday, she appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court where she admitted to these offences and was banned from driving for two years.

She was also handed an 18-month community order with a requirement to take part in alcohol treatment. Inspector Andy Howarth, from Durham Roads and Armed Policing Unit, said: 'Trevail's actions that day were incomprehensible. Gemma Trevair was behind the wheel of the Suzuki S-Cross during rush hour when she crashed it.
