Finding love can be a tricky chore - but all the more so for TV host Gethin Jones who has found himself banned from a dating app over fears he was a catfish. The 46-year-old Welsh wonder has been a regular face on screens since the early 2000s when he rose to fame as a Blue Peter presenter. He then went on to host shows including The One Show and This Morning and was a contestant on Celebrity MasterChef and Strictly Come Dancing.

More recently he has been distracting the nation from their morning with his appearance as a host on BBC daytime show Morning Live. With his bust schedule, Gethin has not managed to find a lasting love and reportedly turned to the dating app Hinge in the hope of swiping his way into the heart of a fair maiden. But his romantic dreams have been left in ruins - as a report has claimed he has been banned from the app after his profile was reported. It appears ladies landing on his profile did not believe it was really him, and so he was accused of catfishing.

Sharing his misfortune on the Restless Natives podcast, Gethin revealed: “A couple of weeks ago I was kicked off Hinge twice in eight hours for violating the Code of Conduct. Three hundred women had reported me for catfishing.”. He continued: “It was that moment when you have to write to Hinge, on a Thursday night, all alone, ‘Dear Hinge, it’s Gethin here, 46, I just want to get my money back because it’s not really working for me’, eating some cereal because there’s nothing in the fridge. That’s when I’m like, ‘What am I doing with my life.”.

Gethin famously dated fellow Welsh star Katherine Jenkins, 44, in 2007. The couple fell for each other after meeting when he was competing on Strictly and she appeared as a special guest and performed on the show. They went on to get engaged in February 2011 - but by the end of the year the engagement was off and the couple split. The break-up hit Gethin hard and he described the experience of a broken heart as "awful".

He revealed in a 2023 interview: “I was engaged and then breaking up, afterwards, or even during that period, it was just awful. I remember doing BBC Radio 5Live and going into the toilet at 5.30am going, ‘All right. Come on. Just focus for the next three hours, and then you can go back to being sad again.’ I definitely had a bad bout of depression during that time.”. He went on to explain he took pride in refusing to discuss the breakup at length, saying; “There was something inside of me at the time, that said the only things that matter really now are dignity and integrity, which no one gives you credit for...it’s the hardest thing to do at the time and probably what I’m most proud of now. I’ve never talked about it.”.
