Those wanting to watch the first three Bridget Jones films before the next is released now have just a few weeks to do so. Based on the book series of the same name by Helen Fielding, itself a reinterpretation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the first Bridget Jones movie (Bridget Jones’s Diary) was released in 2001.

It starred Renee Zellweger in the title role, with Colin Firth and Hugh Grant playing her love interests Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. The original was then followed by the sequels Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2004 and Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016.

However before the upcoming fourth film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, is released in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, Netflix is taking down the first three movies. They will be removed by the streaming service on January 15. The films have recently been taken down from Netflix in other countries, with viewers frustrated by the move.

‘HOW CAN THEY NOT HAVE BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY ON MAX OR NETFLIX????????’ user Heyhey2204 posted on X. ‘Bridget Jones is no longer on Netflix,’ charmanalo shared. ‘Why aren’t Mamma Mia and Bridget Jones Diary on Netflix,’ kalije0n__ added, also referencing another movie set to be taken down in the UK next month as well.

The next movie is based on the 2013 novel of the same name, in which the now 50-something has become a widow – with two small children – after the death of Mark (Colin). To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video.
