Netflix viewers keep watching 'masterpiece of awfulness' that's 'a good movie trying to get out'

Netflix viewers can't get enough of a film labelled a 'masterpiece of awfulness' that has some stating there is 'a good movie trying to get out'. Recently added to the streaming service, Assassin Club has quickly cemented a place in the top ten most watched films on the platform since its addition. This is despite its mixed critical response from its initial release back in 2023.
During the festive season, the Netflix charts has been dominated by Christmas related releases, both classic entries and new additions. However the film has managed to nail down the number two spot at the time of writing. It is sandwiched between new Christmas set Netflix film Carry-On at number one and Illumination's animated take on the classic tale The Grinch in third.
The film stars Henry Golding, known for roles in Crazy Rich Asians and Last Christmas as an elite hitman who is given his final contract and must kill seven people around the world. However, he soon discovers that all of his new targets are equally skilled assassins who have also been hired to kill him. His only shot to survive is to uncover the mastermind behind the deadly plot.
Jurassic Park's Sam Neil also appears in the movie which was looked on generally unfavourably by critics, with a dismal 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Even those that had something good to say in their reviews warned that the action wasn't on par with titles like John Wick and labelled it "an entertaining, turn-off-the-brain movie.".
However, that hasn't put off Netflix subscribers streaming the film in great numbers. One viewer gave it their recommendation as "the cast is decent" and "there is a good movie trying to get out." Although another dubbed the movie as a 'Poundland Hitman' while saying: "It's like a bad WWE film with poor writing, I can't fathom why they made it to be honest. I fell asleep twice as plot plodded on like an unstoppable mess.".
