Netflix viewers have been raving about a brand-new horror series that has been compared to Black Mirror. Cassandra, a German series with all six episodes on the platform, circles around an electronic domestic helper developed in the 1970s. Cassandra is re-employed when a family moves into a new house that has been unoccupied for 50 years. When the family moves into the old home, the electronic is reawakened after decades of being offline.
The series was only released this week and already received high praise from fans. Many compared it to Black Mirror - which is a huge hit series filled with dark and eerie tales with sci-fi elements. Fans rushed to social media to make the comparison, with one user writing on X/ Twitter : "I’m so excited to watch Cassandra on Netflix, it seems like Black Mirror.". One reviewer called the series a 'German Black Mirror' while one user said: "Super super excited about this one. I hope it lives up to the expectations." Another viewer commented: "This is gonna be the craziest episode of Black Mirror ever.".
Several weeks before the release of Cassandra, Black Mirror fans urged fellow sci-fi enthusiasts to tune into another series called Oats Studios. The show, which originally aired between 2017 and 2020, made its way onto Netflix in 2021. Echoing the format of Black Mirror, Oats Studios presents a collection of sharp, concise stories, with each episode lasting anywhere from four to 20 minutes. The official description teases: "Director Neill Blomkamp produces a series of experimental short films that envision post-apocalyptic worlds and nightmarish scenarios.".
Despite not being widely known, some may recognise the South African director Neill Blomkamp for his critically acclaimed film District 9. Blomkamp launched the anthology as a means to test out story ideas with the potential of developing them into full-length movies later on. On Reddit, fans have been praising the series after someone begged for help in finding the show's name. The original post read: "My dad is here for the night, and I desperately want him to watch an episode of this show I can't remember the name of!" The user described the episode in question, prompting a quick identification by another user.
The helpful response was: "Oats Studios! If anyone here enjoys Black Mirror, Love/Death/Robots, Alice in Borderland, and other series along those lines, you might enjoy Oats Studios! It's agonizingly short, but for what we do have? An absolute delight.". Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads. Obsessed with Netflix?
