LOSSIEMOUTH gets the vote to get the better of stablemate and hat-trick seeker State Man when the pair cross swords for the Irish Champion Hurdle (3.20) at Leopardstown on Sunday. Willie Mullins ’ two-time Cheltenham heroine had to give best to Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton Park on Boxing Day that was no disgrace, and State Man himself has something to prove after a blowout in Foxrock over Christmas.
Mullins will be hard to beat in any of the Grade One tests, with KAID D’AUTHIE the pick in the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle (1.40). Mullins’ Gaelic Warrior will start odds-on for the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (2.10), but fellow Closutton runner EL FABIOLO is the selection to repeat his success of 12 months ago. The O’Driscolls Irish Whiskey Leopardstown Handicap Chase (2.45) has a wide-open look to it but Noel Meade’s Galway Plate hero PINKERTON should give a good account.
At Musselburgh, SURREY QUEST makes the most appeal in the bet365 Edinburgh National Handicap Chase (2.25), while ASTA LA PASTA rates a worthy favourite for the bet365 Frodon Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (1.55). Sandy Thomson’s TOP MAN TOM is poised to make the most of bottom weight in the Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle (3.00) and another Scottish-trained runner, CHAPEL GREEN , is taken to capture the bet365 Handicap Chase (3.35) for Lucinda Russell.
