Nicky Henderson will take the wraps off his latest exciting Cheltenham prospect on Saturday provided Kempton can beat the deep freeze. Lulamba, who runs in the yellow-and-black silks of Sir Gino’s owners Joe and Marie Donnelly, has been the subject of sustained support for the Triumph Hurdle, so much so that he is vying for favouritism for the Grade One Cheltenham Festival race.

Sir Gino was denied the opportunity to contest the Triumph Hurdle last March, as Henderson’s string was hit by sickness, but Lulamba is giving Henderson all the right signals that he could be perfect for the race. The Seven Barrows trainer is hoping that Kempton can stage their high-profile card on Saturday, as he wants to see whether the positive impression Lulamba has created at home can be transferred to where it really matters.

‘He’s had one run in France and he did win,’ said Henderson on the Nick Luck Daily podcast. ‘It’s hard to tell the form, they were nearly all debutants. He did that nicely, but you’ve no idea what it was and what was in there. He’s just a fine, big horse.

‘If he was in England, I suspect he’d probably still be in the field, but they tend to get on with them in France. He’s a very nice, very straightforward, scopey animal.’. Nicky Henderson insists he can't wait to unleash his new star horse Lulamba this weekend.
