Philippe Clement has challenged his players to make history by becoming the first Rangers side to win on English soil for almost 33 years. They face a Manchester United team who have been rocked by four defeats in their last five games at Old Trafford.
Missing eight players through injury and suspension, Clement welcomes back keeper Jack Butland and midfielder Tom Lawrence after injury. And he wants his men to focus on securing the club’s first win over English opposition south of the border since a famous victory over Leeds United in 1992.
‘The most important thing for my group is to be focused on ourselves and not all the noise around us,’ said he Belgian. ‘It’s about a football game. We need to show our qualities. ‘We need to get the best out of everybody, out of each other. It’s about what we do on the pitch, with and without the ball.
Philippe Clement walks on to the pitch at Old Trafford where he hopes for famous win. Hamza Igamane, third from left, and team-mates get a feel for United's pitch. Rangers boss Clement takes a few snaps of his surroundings at Old Trafford. ‘The team are doing better and better the last couple of months. That’s what we need to show tomorrow, to write history here.
‘It’s a very long time ago that Rangers won at an English club. So let’s go for the challenge and give everything that we have.’. ‘If you’re a small boy and you start to play football, you dream of being in stadiums like this and playing games like this against good opponents. The (players) all love that.’.
