A NINETIES Britpop singer seems to have barely aged a day - 30 years on from girlband fame. Rock music fans may remember Sleeper, who were originally together from 1992 to 1998. Singer-songwriter Louise Wener, now 58, serves as the band's vocalist and rhythm guitarist. She appeared on Channel 5 News earlier this week - and appeared to have hardly aged since the band's 90s run. Louise spoke to Dan Walker ahead of Sleeper marking a huge occasion.
They are set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut single. Having reunited in 2017, the band will honour this milestone by embarking on a greatest hits tour. Dan asked Louise what being a frontwoman in a "laddish" culture had been like. She replied: "Some people don't remember it, but I think we were just treated on a different level. "So we were objectified. It was lots of sexualisation of it.
"I just think we were held to a different set to standards, maybe, than some of the guys were.". Addressing the passing of time, Louise said: "It feels like 30 years and yesterday. It just feels like an eternity. "But it's lovely to be out doing it again. It's been amazing.". Sleeper recorded three full-length albums prior to their 1998 split: Smart, The It Girl and Pleased to Meet You. Since reforming in 2017, the band have recorded two further albums, titled The Modern Age and This Time Tomorrow.
