Nuno Mendes makes decision over Manchester United transfer after PSG stalemate

Nuno Mendes is interested in joining Manchester United after rejecting a contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France. United have identified Mendes as one of their favoured options to solve the issue on the left side of Ruben Amorim’s defence.
Amorim has already worked with Mendes as he handed the Portugal international his first-team debut at Sporting CP in June 2020. Mendes spent just over a year with Amorim at Sporting before he joined PSG on loan. The French champions then made the deal permanent for £34 million.
The 22-year-old missed the majority of last season due to a hamstring injury which required surgery. So far this term, Mendes has made 17 appearances in all competitions and has been Luis Enrique’s first-choice option at left-back. According to FootMercato, PSG are keen to tie Mendes down to a new deal as his current contract expires next year.
However, the report claims that Mendes has rejected PSG’s latest offer and the defender is now ‘very interested’ in linking back up with Amorim at United. It’s claimed that there is ‘no chance’ that PSG would allow Mendes to leave in the January transfer window and the French club will continue their negotiations over a new deal with the defender.
But PSG will face a tougher decision in the summer transfer window as they would risk losing Mendes on a free transfer next year if he fails to agree to a new contract. Elsewhere, Marcus Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, has travelled to Italy to hold talks over a deal with AC Milan.
