An Oscar-winning actress has become a first-time Razzie nominee thanks to her starring role in ‘one of the worst movies’ of 2024. Cate Blanchett led the way in the critically panned adaptation of Borderlands, which was released in cinemas last August and landed a shocking initial Rotten Tomatoes score of 0% – it has since risen to 10%.

Unfortunately, the 55-year-old’s efforts didn’t impress viewers as she found herself nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award, which tends to ‘honor’ the worst offerings of the film industry. She was tipped for the worst actress trophy but is in good company, battling for the gong alongside Lady Gaga for Joker: Folie à Deux, Argylle’s Bryce Dallas Howard, Dakota Johnson for Madame Web and Atlas star Jennifer Lopez.

Borderlands is also up for worst picture and Eli Roth got a nod for worst director, while Cate’s co-stars Kevin Hart and Jack Black were mentioned in the worst supporting actor category for their roles. Jack, who voiced robot mascot Claptrap, also found himself mentioned in the screen combo category, with the nomination going to ‘any two obnoxious characters (but especially Jack Black).

Although the flick got a whopping six nominations, Joker 2 actually received the most for this year’s ceremony, with a total of seven. Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan also got six nods, while Jon Voight – who took home the worst actor award last year – was nominated for worst supporting actor for the latter two, as well as Shadow Land & Strangers.
