More than half of young people between the ages of 13 and 27 are in favour of turning the UK into a dictatorship, a new poll suggests. The findings revealed a growing acceptance of authoritarianism and radicalism within Generation Z, as well as the emergence of a stark gender divide.

Fifty-two per cent of Gen Z believe the UK would be a better place if a “strong leader was in charge who did not have to bother with parliament and elections”. Meanwhile, forty-five per cent of male respondents said that “we have gone so far in promoting women’s equality that we are discriminating against me”.

A similar proportion of men, aged between 13 and 27, also agreed that “when it comes to giving women equal rights, things have gone far enough”. The figures, based on a sample of 3,000 adults of all ages, came from polling company Craft for a Channel 4 report entitled ‘Gen Z: trends, truth and trust’. It will be published at a Royal Television Society event on Thursday.

Concerning the media, fifty-eight per cent of respondents said they considered social media posts from friends to be more trustworthy than news outlets. Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson were among the influencers who garnered similar trust from 42 percent of men.

One 25-year-old man from Penryn, in Cornwall, said that he felt “targeted” because he was a “regular straight white man”. Despite having a “cultural advantage” in the past, he claimed things were “swinging back the other way” and he was now at risk of being discriminated against, The Times reported.
