A drunken 'party animal' rioter who taunted police by gyrating his hips 'like Mick Jagger' seconds before a flying brick hit him in the groin was arrested at a separate incident that day after officers recognised him from a viral video of the incident.
Brian Spencer, 40, who has been jailed for two-and-a-half years, sank 10 pints and a litre of rum before mocking police as they were pelted with stones and bricks during an eruption of violence in the wake of the Southport stabbings. Footage of the incident shows Spencer being twice struck in the face and head by flying bricks, before turning around and being hit for a third time in his crotch, causing him to groan and keel over in pain.
The painter and decorator was also caught on camera bare-chested while hurling a wheelie-bin at a reversing police car and hoisting another bin above his head. He was seen encouraging other rioters to push forward towards police riot lines and seen dancing as objects were hurled at officers.
It has now emerged that Spencer was arrested later that day because officers were called to a separate incident where they recognised him from the riot footage which had since gone viral, The Telegraph reports. Spencer, who admitted violent disorder, also racially abused a Polish patient at the town's hospital, having been taken there by the police, to await treatment for a head injury.
