Peace lilies, known for their green foliage and white-hooded flowers, can be a bit tricky to care for. However, once you understand their needs, they become much easier to manage. According to Frosts Garden Centre, these plants thrive in bright but indirect light, producing one or two blooms that last over a month. As rainforest plants, peace lilies prefer a warm, humid, semi-shaded environment. Avoid placing them directly in front of a window that gets hot afternoon sun as this can burn the leaves. They do well in humid rooms like kitchens or bathrooms, or near other plants where they can create their own microclimate.

If kept in dark areas without any sunlight, they won't produce flowers, though the plant itself will still grow fine. Once the flowers have faded, experts suggest deadheading them to maintain the plant's neat appearance and hasten the next blooms. The houseplant gurus at The Healthy Houseplant Blog state that deadheading a peace lily not only improves its look but also "helps invigorate your plant" and "encourages it to produce fresh new blooms". They argue that the sooner you deadhead their spent flowers, the quicker the plant can cease wasting energy supporting them.

Deadheading allows your peace lily to "grow faster". It also reallocates part of the energy budget for fresh new flowers, reports the Express. The plant should bloom more frequently if you deadhead regularly. To deadhead spent blooms, trace the stem down to where it meets the main plant. This is where you will make your cut. Position your pruning shears or scissors just above the first healthy leaf or node below the spent bloom. Make a clean, angled cut, ensuring you don't damage any surrounding foliage or stems.
