Pizza Express fans fume after restaurant chain axes popular menu item

Pizza Express fans have shared their extreme displeasure after a popular item was removed from the menu. The Calabrese, which launched in 2010, is a rectangular pizza topped with sausage from Calabria, nduja, roasted peppers, red chillies, rocket and pesto.
It disappeared from the chain's menu just before Christmas - prompting outrage from some fans of the pie. In its place, a number of new options have replaced the fan favourite, but this has not placated some Calabrese lovers. Among the new items are two pizzas - the Quattro Carne and Quattro Formaggi.
Pizza Express, which recently revealed it will be opening an outlet in the US, has 360 UK eateries. It already has a presence in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates. Pizza Express has franchise restaurants in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. It also sells a range of oven-ready pizzas in supermarkets.
Pizza Express has angered some of its fans by removing the popular Calabrese pizza from its menu. Angry fans of the Calabrese took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts about the chain ditching their favourite. One said: '@PizzaExpress how and why on earth have you ditched the calabrese? Is this a sick joke? 2025 ruined…#bringbackthecalabrese.'.
In response, another X user wrote: 'Totally agree with this gentlemen here! The most devastating news for the new year ahead BRING IT BACK!!!'. Another felt equally strongly about the menu change, adding: 'I would give up my human rights for a calabrese from pizza express.'.
