The Federal Aviation Administration said: ‘Delta Air Lines Flight 876 returned safely to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 9 am local time on Monday, February 24, after the crew reported possible smoke in the flightdeck.’.
Fire crews helped passengers off the aircraft and they were taken back to the airport via ground transportation and Delta confirmed another flight was booked for customers to Columbia.
This is the moment plane passengers were forced to flee an aircraft and use clothing to cover their faces as clouds of smoke filled the cabin.
A passenger on the flight, Kevin McKinney, told Fox 5 Atlanta: ‘You heard just about the entire plane, you know, yelling, the cabins filling with smoke because no one was doing anything.
A Delta spokesperson said: ‘The flight crew followed procedures to return to Atlanta when a haze inside the aircraft was observed after departure.
