ITV’s first big show of 2025 looks set to pack a punch. Set in the idyllic hills of Cornwall, it tells the story of two couples who find out that their sons were swapped at birth. What follows is a lot of tension, manipulation and even a few legal battles. And with the majority of the action taking place between the two couples, the cast is small, but it’s certainly mighty. Here’s who stars.
Pete is a full-time carer for Theo, his and Maddie’s son. Once a journalist, he gave up his career and now spends his days looking after his son – only to be told that Theo isn’t his biological child at all. James Norton was born in London in 1985 and grew up in North Yorkshire. He’s appeared in shows like Happy Valley – famously, as the villainous Tommy Lee Royce, for which he was nominated for a Bafta Award – as well as Grantchester, War & Peace and McMafia.
Maddie is a full-time chef who runs a successful restaurant in Cornwall. She’s also struggling with trauma: having nearly died giving birth, she suffered from severe post-natal depression after Theo came back from hospital. Algar, who plays her, is an Irish actor. Born in Mullingar, she made her name starring in Irish TV shows and films, such as Calm with Horses, and won Best Actress at the 2020 IFTA Awards for her performance in The Virtues. More recently, she appeared in ITV medical drama Malpractice as Lucinda Edwards, the Sky show Mary & George and heist show Culprits as Psycho.
Miles is the biological father of Theo, and father of David. A successful architect, he’s rich and has his fingers in a number of pies on the area – including a charity dedicated to helping premature babies. Once he finds out about the birth swap, he’s soon knocking on Pete and Maddie’s door, keen to play an active role in Theo’s life.
