SIR Keir Starmer says questions need to be answered over the failures to protect murdered ten-year-old Sara Sharif. The Prime Minister also described her death at the hands of her father and stepmother as “just the most awful case”. He said: “This is about violence. It’s about abuse.

“It’s about making sure that there are protecting safeguards for children, particularly those being home-schooled. “So that’s where I think the questions are.”. His ministers are working on a clampdown on home-schooling, introducing an NHS-style identity number for children and beefing up council safe-guarding teams.

Sir Keir’s spokesman insisted: “We’re focused on doing everything within our power to stop this type of terrible crime happening again. "We clearly need answers as to how this could have happened.”. Sara’s father and stepmother Beinash Batool began home-schooling her to hide abuse, which her uncle, Faisal Malik, did nothing to stop.
