This is the popular 14-year-old girl shot dead by a fellow pupil at a school in the US this week. Rubi Patricia Vergara has been described as "an avid reader, loved art, singing and playing keyboard in the family worship band" in an emotional tribute. She and a teacher were killed by 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, in a bloody attack.
Rupnow, also known as Samantha, also injured four other people - thought to be pupils - at the fee-paying school, and then fatally pulled the trigger on herself. In a public obituary published on Wednesday in Madison, Rubi is named and pictured. The words illustrate the teenager's passion for music as she played in the school band.
The obituary says: "Rubi was an avid reader, loved art, singing and playing keyboard in the family worship band." Vigils have been held in Rubi's memory in the days since the tragedy. People there also paid their respects to the 42-year-old teacher killed, identified by the Dane County medical examiner as Michelle E. West.
It has also emerged Rupnow, who had a disturbing obsession with other school shooters, possessed two handguns on Monday but only used one during her twisted rampage. Police continue to investigate the shootings, and are yet to establish an obvious motive. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said. "Two other students who were shot remained in critical condition on Wednesday. We may never know what she was thinking that day, but we’ll do our best to try to add or give as much information to our public as possible.".
