A Pokémon Presents event is expected to be held on February 27, leaked from data from developer Niantic. This coincides with Pokémon Day, celebrating the 29th anniversary of the release of the very first Pokémon games – Red and Green – in 2025. It sounds like this year will be more important than some previous Pokémon Days, though. Pokémon Presents is expected to provide a platform for Pokémon Legends Z-A, the next major gaming instalment in the series.

The Pokémon team has already announced the game will come to “Nintendo Switch systems in 2025”, signalling we are likely to know about the Switch 2 by February 27. For a brief moment, Amazon UK actually listed an August 15 release date for the game, but that information has since been removed.

Pokémon Legends Z-A was announced in February 2024 with a trailer. Since then, we have heard little more about the game,. It will be set, at least in part, in Lumiose city. The reveal trailer was rooted in this location, which is based on Paris, spreading out from a central Prism Tower.

Last year’s Pokémon Presents was also held on February 27, and brought us the announcement of Legends Z-A, alongside Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. That mobile game was eventually released in October 2024. Pokémon Legends Z-A is the direct follow-up to 2022’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus. But, since then, we’ve also had Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, released later in 2022 as the series’ mainline entry. That pair was criticised for its performance issues, a problem the next title should hopefully be able to avoid, at least in its Switch 2 version.
