Police have launched an appeal after a man and woman "tried to grab" an 11-year-old girl as she walked to school. Greater Manchester Police were called Silver Street in Irlam, Greater Manchester, close to the junction of Cutnook Lane, at around 8.30am this morning following reports that the pair were seen driving in the area in separate vehicles before they exited their cars and tried to grab hold of the schoolgirl.

The girl, who was able to flee the scene, then ran to tell an adult about what had happened, and they alerted local police. Investigators have since released the details of the male, whom they have said is white, around five foot nine inches tall, and with short, dark hair.

The police description adds that he was clean-shaven, and wearing a pair of blue jeans and black hoodie. The woman, they said, is also white, and was wearing leggings and a black hoodie. Manchester Evening News reports that one of the two emerged from a black vehicle with four doors, while the other exited a white van with a sliding door.

GMP has now called on anyone living in the area who may have relevant dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage of the incident to come forward. Anyone who believes they have have witnessed the incident has been asked to come forward and speak to police, with additional officers posted in the community as investigations continue.

Detective Inspector Justin Bryant, from GMP’s Salford district, said police are "doing all we can" to investigate. He said: “This is of course a concerning and stressing incident and I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to investigate the circumstances.
