It certainly has not been an easy year for the Prince of Wales, with both his wife, Princess Kate, and father King Charles undergoing cancer treatment. For a time earlier in the year, both Charles and Kate were forced to press pause on their public-facing royal duties, and instead focus all their energies on their well-being - which left a vacuum that Queen Camilla and William, as the two most senior royals, were left to fill.

While Kate announced in September that she had completed her preventative chemotherapy, and would be tentatively returning to some duties, she also made it clear that her ongoing health and recovery would remain her main focus. King Charles's cancer treatment is reported to be continuing into 2025, with palace sources quoted as saying: "his treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year".

The last twelve months - dubbed by William as "brutal" - have seen the future King forced to balance his royal duties with his familial responsibilities, and while he has continued with many of his landmark projects like the climate solutions award the Earthshot Prize, and Homewards, which aims to end homelessness in the UK in the next five year, his actions have made it clear that his three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six will always remain his top priority.

Royal experts haven't been shy when it comes to heaping praise on the future King for how he has handled one of the monarchy's most difficult years in recent decades, with one expert noting that it's become clear to them that William is the Royal Family's "rock".
