Real Madrid rejected an advance from representatives of Virgil van Dijk over a summer move, reports in Spain have claimed. The 33-year-old's Dutchman agents contacted the LaLiga giants to inform them of his willingness to join the Bernabeu when his Liverpool contract expires, according to the report.

Madrid have had a number of problems at centre back in recent seasons, with the likes of David Alaba and Eder Militao missing significant time with serious knee injuries. However, the club reportedly opted to pass up the chance to sign the Reds skipper, despite his imperious form and stature in the game, in favour of 'other profiles' that would better suit the team.
