Drew McIntyre's backstage frustrations with WWE are very real - despite fans speculating they are part of a storyline - Mail Sport can reveal. The Scottish star was part of the Royal Rumble in Indianapolis on Saturday night, which saw Jey Uso wins the men's match and Charlotte Flair the women's. McIntyre was in the match for a prolonged period of time, entering at No 17 and lasting just short of 27 minutes before being eliminated by Damian Priest.
Having won the Rumble in 2019 and enjoying a number of world title runs, he was part of a heavyweight group of wrestlers in the ring at one time, including the likes of Roman Reigns, John Cena and CM Punk. McIntyre has drawn widespread praise for his rivalry with Punk over the last year - which saw the duo put on three high-quality matches - as has been lauded for his recent character work and ability to put on matches of the highest order.
Now, however, he has been left reeling with the events of Saturday night, which saw him toppled by Priest in what appeared to be a rushed elimination, with events unfolding backstage after. Drew McIntyre's backstage frustrations with WWE are real, Mail Sport has learned. McIntyre was part of the men's Royal Rumble on Sunday night before being eliminated. The match was won by Jey Uso (right), who was dubbed a surprise victor by several fans.
McIntyre was eliminated by Damian Priest (left), who he is set to take on at WrestleMania. A source close to the event told Mail Sport that McIntyre was left fuming with the actions of one individual in the match, who was accused of trying to take centre stage when McIntyre's elimination was due to take place. His fume when he was eliminated was clear to see, but it has been learned that the fume was genuine.
McIntyre stormed out backstage, and had to be calmed down by his family and members of the locker room. Mail Sport has also learned that McIntyre is due for a programme with Priest heading into WrestleMania - a bout described by a source as a 'nothing match'. McIntyre is of the opinion that he deserves a more prominent feud after the most successful year of his career in 2024. The two have butted heads before, started around War Games in 2023 and most notably when Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on the Scot at WrestleMania last year.
