More than 60 per cent of crime son tube trains were categorised as “theft of passenger property” (4,969 offences), followed by public order (1,065 offences) and graffiti (763 offences).

Overall bus crime levels were down one per cent but there was a sharp increase in hate crime, from 621 offences to 801, which TfL said was due in part to the Israel-Hamas war.

TfL said that crimes on the Underground were closely split, with 50 per cent of offences (8,191) occurring on the train and 47 per cent (7,680) occurring at the station.

There were 359 offences at Kings Cross St Pancras, almost five per cent of the total, followed by 281 at Oxford Circus, 272 at Tottenham Court Road, 237 at Stratford and 205 at Finsbury Park.
