Brendan Rodgers last night intimated he is keen to keep Kyogo Furuhashi despite interest from MLS side Atlanta United after the Japanese striker scored twice to push Celtic to a 4-1 away win at Ross County. Furuhashi opened the scoring in Dingwall and then made it 2-1 with his 12th strike of the season with nine minutes left after Jordan White had levelled from the penalty spot.
A penalty from Arne Engels and a Luke McCowan effort in time added-on gave the scoreline the look of a hammering, but Furuhashi’s goals were vital and Rodgers paid tribute to his display at time-up. Asked specifically if he wants to keep the player, the Parkhead manager replied: ‘Yeah, all the players,’ he said. ‘We want to improve the squad and develop the squad.
Even his goals today, that’s what he’s all about — great runs, getting round the box and getting his finish.’. With Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn missing, Furuhashi was also asked to come in from a right-sided position against County with Adam Idah operating as the central striker.
Rodgers hails Furuhashi at full-time after the striker's double helped Celtic to victory. Furuhashi forces a save from in-form County keeper Jordan Amissah. ‘I thought Kyogo worked really well,’ said Rodgers. ‘I think you have to remember he was a winger when he played in Japan, that’s what he was. He came into the club as a winger.
