Ruben Amorim has revealed that Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligts both suffered injury worries that forced their substitution against Rangers. United came away 2-1 victors at Old Trafford to lie in fourth place in the Europa League table with just one game remaining. Bruno Fernandes scored a late winner to secure a third European victory in as many games in the competition for Amorim.

The Portuguese midfielder produced a fine finish to break Rangers hearts after Cyriel Dessers had appeared to earn the Scottish side a point at the death. Jack Butland punched the ball into his own net to provide the home side the lead after the break.

But it was not all good news from the game for United's 39-year-old boss as two of his three starting central defenders had to be replaced. Amorim revealed that De Ligt and Yoro both felt issues that meant he did not want to risk extending their stay on the field.

"Matthijs De Ligt felt something in his leg, as did Leny Yoro," said Amorim following the game. "We can't risk anything. I know we have to win, but we have to show the players that everybody matters.". It will have been a night of frustration for De Ligt in particular. The former Juventus and Ajax star also saw a goal ruled out during his time on the pitch.

It was not a decision that would have been made in the Premier League, according to Amorim. “We started the game scoring first - that's very important," said the United boss. "We take a lot of interest in set-pieces, and from the first one you can see we can take it to Europe. In the Premier League the first goal [De Ligt's disallowed header] would not be disallowed.".
