Santa has officially set off on his journey to deliver presents to boys and girls around the world. Accompanied by his trusted reindeer, Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen, jolly old Father Christmas will be racing against the clock to make sure everyone gets their gifts in time for December 25.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) - a joint defence partnership which for the rest of the year monitors potential threats in the skies above Canada and the United States - will be tracking Santa's every move, and you can follow his progress live on this live blog.

He started his journey around 9am UK time on Christmas Eve. Check our live blog below to see where he is right now:. Santa has managed to deliver over 2.5 billion presents so far, with jolly St Nick having had to slow down slightly as he passed over vast, uninhabied stretches of sea and ocean this evening.

Santa is currently heading for Tblisi, the capital of Georgia, where he will arrive in just over a minute after passing over Iran and Azerbaijan. Santa has now crossed from India to Pakistan, and will spend the next couple of minutes in Karachi before moving on to Lahore.

He has now delivered more than 2.2 billion gifts. Santa has just passed over the Maldives, where temperatures have hit around 28C, and is now looping back towards India. Santa has now crossed India, the subcontinent home to roughly 1.5 billion people where he is known by a host of different monikers.

Different populations in the country know the figure by different names, with Hindi speakers calling him Christmas Baba, Tamil Indians calling him Christmas Taathaa, and Marathi Indians calling him Natal Bua. These are just a few of the names, with dozens more assigned to St Nick across other parts of the nation.
