Yet John Lewis’ Hobo bag had a magnetic fastening at the top to close the mouth of the bag, while Saint Laurent’s design features a fine top strap with metal YSL hardware that hooks into a tab to stay closed.
The North/South Faux Leather Hobo Bag from John Lewis’ own brand, ANYDAY, looks very similar to Saint Laurent’s Le 5 à 7 Large Leather Shoulder Bag, which fetches £2,200.
The Hobo bag measures 30cm in height, 28cm in width and 10cm in depth, which is almost the same dimensions as Saint Laurent’s Large Shoulder Bag that reaches 29cm in height, as well as width, and 12cm in depth.
The main difference is Saint Laurent has crafted their bag out of super soft calf leather with a grain texture, whereas John Lewis has used recycled materials in the form of polyurethane, which makes for a slightly more eco-conscious choice, and more affordable for shoppers.
John Lewis’ Hobo Bag has the same rectangular shape as the Saint Laurent version, but is lighter in weight than the designer alternative at 55g.
