Alton Towers announced the exciting news on social media, with a post that read: ‘Get ready to submit to the spin in Spring 2025 with our brand-new ride, Toxicator. Ready to face the ultimate thrill?’. The ride will be a ‘top-spin’, which means riders sit on a platform that rotates between two axes, and it’s set to be the only one in the world elevated above ground level.

Those who don’t quite dare to take a seat, will be able to view the entire ride from the ground, as the attraction’s 16-foot elevated platform also makes it the highest of its kind, at 78ft tall. Further information on their website gave guests a taste of what might be in store – and it won’t be for the faint hearted.

‘Take hold and brace yourself. Because your world is about to be turned upside down,’ reads the statement. ‘Toxicator is ready to whip up a dizzying vortex of fear in the heart of the Forbidden Valley. ‘Hang in suspense and feel the powerful forces at play, spinning you into a whirlwind of excitement and fear. Hearts will pound. Adrenaline will soar.’.

If that doesn’t make you feel queasy, we don’t know what will. More than 500 riders per hour will be able to experience the Toxicator, with what Merlin Entertainments, the park’s parent company, explaining that guests are ‘seated back-to-back before being flipped round and held face down above a “bubbling pool of highly toxic alien acid”‘.
