Sergio Perez has been told to look away from Formula 1 towards the "obvious" next step of his racing career. The Mexican is without a place on the 2025 grid after his fourth season as a Red Bull Racing driver proved to be his final one. His poor results this year proved costly in their constructors' championship chase and Liam Lawson has been promoted to partner Max Verstappen next term.

His struggles this year in particular have damaged Perez's reputation but it remains to be seen whether other teams will be put off a move for the Mexican to fill any vacancies they may have for 2026. But even if the F1 door does not open again for Perez, there may still be some fulfilling options elsewhere. Pundit and former F1 mechanic Marc Priestley believes the 34-year-old may find a new home racing in the American IndyCar series.

"Sergio Perez has a massive fan base and huge commercial support behind him," he told Casino Uden Rofus. "He can compete in another form of racing, IndyCar might be the obvious choice right now but it will come down to his personal decision. "Sometimes, drivers come towards to the end of their long F1 careers and when they come to the end of their time in the sport, they might want to prioritise time with family. Perez has multiple options ahead of him though, I don't doubt it.".

Lawson was the man chosen to replace Perez at the top Red Bull team despite his relative inexperience. Yuki Tsunoda has four full F1 seasons under his belt but still the Japanese racer was overlooked in favour of a 22-year-old with just 11 race starts to his name in the category.
