Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Severance returns with a second season this month. The first season of the show, executive produced and part directed by Ben Stiller, aired in 2022, and has since garnered a 97 per cent Rotten Tomatoes rating and been nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.
The show is about a group of people who elect to undergo a surgery to ‘sever’ their personal memories from those of their work lives. As a result, when they go to work at Lumon Industries, they remember nothing about their personal lives – not where they live, whether or not they’re married, or even if they know their colleagues outside of the workplace.
Similarly, outside of work, they remember nothing about what they do or who they do it with. Season one centred around Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott (Parks and Recreations). In the first episode, a man approaches Mark outside work, claiming to be his colleague. He tells him nothing at Lumon Industries is as it seems and after this, Mark’s innie (inside the office) and outie (outside of work) both struggle with the mystery of severed memories.
So where does the new season pick up, and when does it come out?. The first episode of the 10-episode season launches globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 17. Apple will then release one episode a week on Fridays until the season finale on March 21. The first season of Severance is streaming in full on Apple TV+ in the meantime.
