Having slipped to 35 for five after choosing to bat, Bangladesh fought back to make 228 with Towhid Hridoy making 100 and Jaker Ali contributing 68, the pair sharing a sixth-wicket stand of 154.

Shami took five for 53 and Axar Patel missed out on a hat-trick after Rohit Sharma dropped a simple catch at slip from the third ball, having dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.

Gill led the way in the chase, taking his side home in the 47th over with 101 from 129 deliveries, his eighth one-day international century, which included nine fours and two sixes.
