Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made the entire Manchester United squad available for sale for the right price - with two key reasons behind his bombshell decision. The Red Devils have continued to underperform and, with weeks left in the January transfer window, they will listen to offers for every member of their playing group. That includes some of their leading lights including Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Ruben Amorim wants to bring in his own players having only arrived on November 11, but there are limited funds available at Old Trafford. The club, as they embark on a new era, have accepted that healthy squad management will be key if they are to overhaul the team.
As a result all offers will be listened to, with INEOS chief Ratcliffe also keen to change the perception of the Manchester outfit in the market. United have become known as poor sellers and Ratcliffe wants to change that going forward. The second reason is that United need to follow the profitability and sustainability rules - and they are under pressure to balance the books if they want to make new signings.
The Premier League giants are not actively seeking to sell the likes of Mainoo, Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund - who were once deemed untouchable - but keeping an open mind is part of the stance they want to take going forward. Over the past decade the club have continued to see players leave for considerably less than they were bought for. In the summer they saw Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek leave - taking a huge £60million plus loss on the pair.
